Dr. Scott W. Bloom is a board-certified general surgeon and educator. His dedication to the field of surgery has been recognized by numerous awards and distinctions, including the University of British Columbia's H. Rocke Robertson Award for Undergraduate Surgical Education and, for five years in a row, the Staten Island University Hospital Attending Physician of the Year award. As an attending surgeon at Staten Island University Hospital, Dr. Bloom held multiple leadership positions, including Associate Chairman, Department of Surgery, Director, General Surgery and Program Director, General Surgery Residency Program.

His Expertise is grounded n in-depth medical and scientific research published in many distinguished North American peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Bloom is a member of the Canadian Association of General Surgeons. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Canadian Medical Association, the American Board of Surgery, the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Program Directors in Surgery.

Steve Eubanks, MD, FACS

Director of Academic Surgery/Associate Program Director

Dr. Eubanks came to AdventHealth Orlando in September of 2010 as the Director of Academic Surgery and the Medical Director of the Institute for Surgical Advancement. Dr. Eubanks is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and was trained in General Surgery at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta. He was the first Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellow at Duke University and went on to serve on the Duke faculty for 10 years. Dr. Eubanks was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Missouri prior to coming to AdventHealth Orlando. Dr. Eubanks has served as the President of SAGES, published eight surgical books and approximately ninety peer-reviewed journal articles. His primary areas of clinical and research interest are advanced minimally invasive surgery and upper gastrointestinal diseases.

Joshua Goldberg, MD

Joshua Goldberg, MD

Joshua Goldberg, MD, FACS, is an accomplished general and trauma surgeon. He also has broad experience providing care as an intensivist to patients in a hospital surgical critical care unit. Dr. Goldberg earned his medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his surgery residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center where he achieved the rank of Chief Resident. He went on to complete fellowships in both burn surgery and surgical critical care. He joined AdventHealth Medical Group from New Orleans, where he was a leading trauma and critical care surgeon at Oschner Medical Center. He has served on the faculty at the University of Colorado and the University of Queensland Oschner Clinical School where he was named Outstanding Clinical Faculty of the Year. Dr. Goldberg serves as the director of the AdventHealth Orlando Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

Alan Wladis, MD

Alan Wladis, MD, FACS, is a board-certified vascular surgeon and registered vascular technologist at AdventHealth Medical Group with offices next to AdventHealth Orlando. He has years of experience providing the most advanced treatments for arterial and venous disorders via minimally invasive and nonsurgical methods. Dr. Wladis's specialties include aortic, mesenteric, peripheral and renal reconstruction; endovascular treatment of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms; lower extremity revascularization; and minimally invasive therapies to restore the normal function of arteries and veins in the lower extremities. His credentials include his medical degree earned at the SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, residency training at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and advanced fellowship in vascular surgery completed at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.

Fahd Ali, MD, FACS, has been practicing complex emergency general and trauma surgery for more than a decade. He also has broad experience providing care as an intensivist to patients in a hospital surgical critical care unit. He joined AdventHealth Medical Group from New York, where he was a leading trauma and critical care surgeon at Winthrop University Hospital, served on the faculty at State University of New York and was a Chief Surgeon for the New York State Troopers. Throughout his career, he has been a trauma educator for physicians and other health care providers. A community advocate, he is especially known for his outreach to stem urban violence and for his educational courses on hemorrhage control.

Jeffrey C. Chiu, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon with AdventHealth Medical Group in Orlando. He performs all types of general surgery procedures, with a special emphasis on minimally invasive approaches to breast, endocrine and gastrointestinal conditions. Dr. Chiu earned his medical degree at the Florida State University College of Medicine and undertook his general surgery residency at Florida Hospital (now AdventHealth) in Orlando, where he himself was born.

Marcus Darrabie, MD

Marcus D. Darrabie, MD, is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. He specializes in the management of critically ill and postoperative patients, including trauma victims. Dr. Darrabie provides expert critical care medicine diagnoses and treats and supports patients with multiple organ dysfunction. Additionally, he also performs elective, minimally invasive laparoscopic, and open procedures. His outstanding credentials include his medical degree from Duke University. Dr. Darrabie completed his surgical residency and advanced fellowship training in critical care at Duke, where he was twice awarded the Duke University School of Medicine Appleseed Resident Teaching Award. He went on to complete an additional surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Florida. Dr. Darrabie serves as an instructor of surgery at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and Florida State College of Medicine. He is an active researcher and widely published in the field of critical care medicine.

Sebastian G. de la Fuente, MD

Sebastian G. de la Fuente, MD graduated from the University of Salvador School of Medicine in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed his general surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina and a surgical oncology fellowship at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida. Prior to his clinical training, he completed a research fellowship in GI diseases and surgery at Duke University. Dr. de la Fuente has written over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and 16 book chapters and continuous to be involve with research activities. He was recently awarded The Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Award for his work on robotic surgery in patients with esophageal cancer. His primary areas of clinical and research interests include minimally invasive approaches in hepato-pancreato-biliary diseases including pancreatic oncology and gastrointestinal diseases. Dr. de la Fuente was named the Physician Research Coordinator and Director of Research of the general surgery residency program and AdventHealth Orlando in 2012. He also has dual appointments at the University of Central Florida and Florida State University in the capacity of Assistant Professor of Surgery.

Timothy S. McElveen, MD, FACS

Timothy Steve McElveen, MD, FACS, joined AdventHealth Medical Group from AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, SC, where he was a general surgeon for over 20 years and previously served as the hospital’s Chief of Staff. He is a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he earned his undergraduate degree in biology and was a William Douglas Memorial Scholarship recipient while earning his medical degree at the USC School of Medicine. Dr. McElveen undertook his internship training at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta and his general surgery residency at Georgia Baptist and Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Virginia, respectively. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 1997 and is a highly rated surgeon with outstanding patient reviews.

Christopher Olukoga, MD, is an award-winning general surgeon who consults with patients at AdventHealth Medical Group’s surgical practice in Winter Park. Specializing in general surgery, minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery, and surgery to address conditions within the breast, endocrine glands, gastrointestinal system and foregut, he also provides simple to complex hernia correction procedures. A patient favorite who has been tapped as a Top Surgeon candidate and “Health Care Hero” in recent polls, he is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. After graduating with his medical degree from the University of Benin College of Medical Sciences, he completed an internship and residency in general surgery at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, where he received the Chairman’s Outstanding Graduating Chief Surgery Resident Award. He capped his medical training with a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Bernadette Profeta, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon who consults with patients at AdventHealth Medical Group’s surgical specialty offices in east Orlando. Patients are frequently referred to her care due to her expertise in minimally invasive surgical procedures to address swallowing disorders; paraesophageal, inguinal and ventral hernias; and gastrointestinal and solid organ diseases. A recipient of the Chief Resident Hands of a Surgeon Award and numerous “Top Docs” honors, she is a recognized leader in her field and active member of multiple medical societies. She earned her medical degree and completed her general surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and capped her medical training with a fellowship in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond.

Alric Simmonds, MD

Dr. Simmonds was the second member of the faculty to join our residency program. He came on board in August of 2006 and was essential in the first year of recruiting for our new program. Dr. Simmonds obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. He completed residency training at Howard University Hospital. He was awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health/Heart Lung and Blood Institute to become a National Health Disparities Scholar for two years in which he completed post-doctoral research through the Department of Surgery at the University of Miami. Dr. Simmonds holds a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery rank with Florida State University College of Medicine. Dr. Simmonds is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Simmonds holds the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Florida State University and the University of Central Florida.

Enrique Vega, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in gastrointestinal, breast and skin cancers as well as thyroid, parathyroid and hernia repair surgeries. An award-winning member of the esteemed surgical team at AdventHealth Medical Group in Central Florida, he receives many referrals from area physicians whose patients require surgical intervention to address problems with the gallbladder, spleen, adrenal glands, breast, endocrine glands, and gastrointestinal tract. A graduate of Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California, he completed dual residencies in general surgery at Loma Linda University and Florida Hospital (now AdventHealth) in Orlando and another residency in family medicine, also at AdventHealth Orlando.

Georg K. Wiese, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon. Dr. Melissa Bagloo is a board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. A Florida native, Dr. Bagloo joins AdventHealth after training and initiating her practice in the northeast. She completed her general surgery residency at New York University School of Medicine and a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Most recently, she led and developed a highly successful multidisciplinary weight loss program. A highly experienced clinician and surgeon, Dr. Bagloo has received many awards and honors. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and has consistently scored in the top 5% for Press Ganey patient satisfaction nationally. Dr. Bagloo’s interests lie in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery with a focus on gastric surgery, hiatal hernias, reflux surgery, and abdominal wall reconstruction. She has personally performed over 500 robotic operations and thousands of minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Bagloo believes in whole patient care with optimal results and aims to ease recovery with minimal down time.

Jonah White, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon with advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. He earned his medical degree at Tulane University and completed his residency at AdventHealth in Orlando, where he earned the Outstanding Minimally Invasive Surgery Resident Award and Joseph Portoghese Resident of the Year Award. He most recently completed his fellowship training with Prisma Health in Greenville, South Carolina. Dr. White specializes in advanced hernia surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction, upper gastrointestinal surgery, and broad-based general surgery using a variety of advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques.

Michael Gregg, MD, recently completed a surgical critical care fellowship at Orlando Regional Medical Center’s Level 1 Trauma Center. Previously, he was in a general surgery residency in the Florida Hospital Graduate Medical Education Program, where he was named Pediatric Surgery Resident of the Year. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa after graduating cum laude from the University of Florida at Gainesville with a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science. He has received clinical honors in pathology, general surgery, transplant surgery, advanced surgical anatomy and pathophysiology, pediatric pulmonary disease and advanced surgical skills. He received clinical commendation for his Year III clerkship performance.
