Welcome from the Program Director
We believe that every patient should have a dedicated family physician. Here at the AdventHealth, we aim to train the best family physicians who can take care of over 90% of the patient’s concerns – whether at the office or the hospital. We believe that the family doctor should have a solid, evidence-based training, and we stress the importance of whole-person care.

Inpatient Rotations
The intern inpatient experience is based at AdventHealth Orlando, a 1300 bed, tertiary care center that is the second largest hospital in Florida. The senior inpatient rotations occur at AdventHealth Winter Park, a 300-bed community hospital that treats 15,000 patients annually.
Outpatient Office
Our new facility, the Centre for Family Medicine, opened in June 2010 and is located within AdventHealth Winter Park. Average time spent in office per week is 1 half-day for PGY-1, 3 half-days for PGY-2, and 4 half-days for PGY-3, in addition to many specialty clinics directed by the faculty. Residents also rotate through the VA Outpatient Facility in Orlando in many of their specialty clinics. Seniors perform nursing home visits at two nursing facilities on a monthly basis
Electronic Medical Record System
Our residents have access to Athena in the hospital, at home or anywhere via the web. AdventHealth is currently in the process of transitioning over to EPIC.
Academic Time
Conferences are an integral part of the residency curriculum. Each Thursday afternoon is set aside for lectures and/or workshops that cover the core content of Family Medicine.
Call Schedule
A Night float system in place for OB and the Family Medicine Inpatient Services. Residents share weekend and holiday call.

Research
As one of the key components in ACGME program requirements, research activity is an essential part of training. In the era of evidence-based medicine, we strongly believe at AdventHealth residents should develop critical thinking skills to evaluate the publications and apply new knowledge in their clinical practice. Our program has a well-developed infrastructure and fostering culture to support residents who are interested in pursuing basic research, clinical research, or quality improvement/patient safety projects. By promoting research and scholarly activities, our ultimate goal is to train the next generation of physicians with strengths in both clinical and academic medicine.
Residents and faculty involved in required GME scholarly activities receive guidance from the Center for Academic Research Excellence (CARE) through the Clinical Academic Research team, comprised of an Academic Research Mentor, a Project Coordinator, and a Regulatory Coordinator. In addition, the center includes a group of biostatisticians, a health economist, and a medical editor.
CARE assists residents and faculty with all types of scholarly activities (case studies, QI projects and research studies), from study design and protocol development, to data analysis and poster, presentation or manuscript preparation.
