Welcome from the Program Director
On behalf of the faculty at the Department of Surgery, thank you for your interest in our General Surgery Training Program.
We provide an opportunity for highly motivated individuals a clinical and operative experience, robust didactic, and mentorship to acquire the knowledge and skills required to become future leaders in surgery.
Our Program ensures high-quality training and opportunities for fellowship training at our institution. We also provide opportunities to serve the less fortunate overseas which will empower our residents to be able to practice in environment with limited resources.

Program Information

- Complete applications must come through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
- Applicants must register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Here are our NRMP Codes:
- Preliminary positions - Surgery Prelim/Tampa: 1102440P0
- Categorical positions - General Surgery/Tampa: 1102440C1
- As we joined recruitment season late, the only deadlines we are following are the NRMP Match Calendar dates.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- USMLE and/or COMLEX transcripts – passing scores.
- We accept applications from the following types of medical schools without reservations:
- LCME accredited medical schools in the U.S. or Canada.
- AOA accredited colleges in the U.S.
- International medical schools - if one of the following criteria is met:
- The applicant holds current ECFMG certification before applying to our program.
- The applicant has proof of US citizenship.
- Or appropriate visa status (H1bs are sponsored).
- Applicants must have graduated from medical school no more than four years prior to the residency start date.
- Applicants must not have prior ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship training, or other post-graduate education since medical school graduation.
- We take a whole person or holistic approach to the applicant review and selection process, that emphasizes consideration of experiences, attributes, competencies, and metrics.

What We Have to Offer
The Taneja Center for Surgery brings these new features to AdventHealth Tampa:
- 96 new private patient rooms upon opening, with space to add 36 more
- 24 beds will be Intensive Care level; the remaining 72 will be PCU level
- 18 spacious and state-of-the-art operating rooms upon opening, with space to add six additional ORs
- 72 new pre- and post-op rooms, with space to add 23 additional rooms
- Estimated 117 new clinical jobs created in year one, with 587 new jobs by year five, helping our local economy
- 300,000+ additional square feet (adding to the 1 million square feet on our existing campus)
- Six brand-new floors
- A new main entrance to the hospital, which includes a two-story atrium and lobby with various first-floor amenities
