About the Program
The AdventHealth Geriatric Medicine fellowship began with the first fellow in 1998 and remains fully accredited by the Accreditation Council of General Medical Education (ACGME). Upon completion, the fellows are qualified to take the Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) Examination in Geriatrics, which is given by both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Family Medicine. And fellowship director Dr Ariel Cole sits on the committee that writes and revises this exam.
The geriatric fellowship program seeks to train Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physicians in all facets of clinical geriatrics over a period of 12 months. Both medical and non-medical aspects of elder care will be emphasized, including institutional, non-institutional, regulatory, economic, psycho-social, pharmacologic, rehabilitation, palliative and other associated areas. Learning will be patient-based in a variety of settings, stressing the multi-disciplinary team approach to the comprehensive care of the frail, elderly population, as well as didactic, scholarly and instructional activities.

In addition, the center includes a group of biostatisticians, a health economist, and a medical editor.
CARE assists residents, fellows, and faculty with all types of scholarly activities (case studies, QI projects and research studies), from study design and protocol development, to data analysis and poster, presentation or manuscript preparation.
