Welcome From the Program Director
Welcome to the AdventHealth Orlando Anesthesiology Residency Program!
As the founding program’s director, I have the privilege to create a training program that I am certain will instill excellent diagnostic and clinical skills for the next generation of young Anesthesiologists. Our residents will acquire their basic clinical skills and specialty training at the AdventHealth’s flagship quaternary care center, located near the downtown Orlando, where they will care for a diverse and medically challenging patient population. Trainees will also have an opportunity to experience fast-paced anesthesia care at several of our community hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers.

AdventHealth Surgical Preliminary Year (Anesthesiology-Oriented)
Program Information
Mission Statement
The AdventHealth Surgical Preliminary Year with Anesthesiology Orientation is dedicated to developing residents with exceptional perioperative and critical care skills, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and preparing future anesthesiologists to excel in advanced training and patient care.
- Program Introduction
-
The Surgical Preliminary Year at AdventHealth Orlando provides anesthesia-bound residents with a rigorous foundation in perioperative medicine while maintaining full compliance with ACGME requirements. This program is available exclusively to medical students who match into the AdventHealth Anesthesiology Residency.
By combining high-yield surgical subspecialty experiences, including thoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, pulmonology, ENT, and pediatric intensive care, the curriculum emphasizes advanced training in airway management, ventilator strategies, hemodynamic monitoring, and the management of complex physiology across diverse patient populations and operative settings.
Residents will complete two months in Anesthesiology, gaining early exposure to their specialty, faculty, and co-residents. This early integration ensures that graduates transition into the AdventHealth Anesthesiology Residency with strong preparation in critical care decision-making, multidisciplinary teamwork, and perioperative patient optimization—positioning them to excel from day one of their categorical anesthesiology training.
