Understanding Your Condition

Headache and Migraine

Chronic or uncommonly strong headaches and migraines can affect your life in ways that only someone who’s experienced them can truly understand. According to the National Headache Foundation, an estimated 45 million Americans suffer from chronic headaches each year. If you happen to be one of them, you’ll find the care and support you need here at the AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute network. Our neurologists are experts at helping to identify the cause of your condition and developing the ideal treatment program for you.

There are a few common types of headaches, including:

  • Cluster headaches: This rare headache disorder consists of severe headaches on one side of the head. Other symptoms include red or teary eyes, runny or stuffy nose, flushing or sweating of the face or a sense of restlessness and agitation. They’re called cluster headaches because they often occur back to back for days.
  • Migraines: This severe and sometimes debilitating headache can last between four and 72 hours and is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting and an increased sensitivity to light or sound.
  • Tension headaches: This is the most common form of headache that almost everyone has had at some point. It is usually remedied by a quick trip to the pharmacy for over-the-counter medication like ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
