That Works for You
- Early Detection and Prevention Through Screening
You can minimize your risk for diabetes. We can help. Diabetes is caused by many different factors, but genetics and lifestyle can be significant risk factors. At AdventHealth Zephyrhills, formerly Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, we offer comprehensive education programs and resources to teach you what those factors are, and how best to overcome them.
We also offer comprehensive screenings. For diabetes, we screen by measuring the levels of glucose in your bloodstream. Our tests include:
- A1C – A common blood test for diagnosing type 1 and type 2 diabetes
- Casual Plasma Glucose Test – Random screening for blood sugar levels
- Fasting Plasma Glucose Test – Requires you to refrain from food or drink for eight hours
- Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) – We’ll give you glucose and test your levels afterwards.
If a test comes back positive, we'll let you know as soon as possible. We can then begin the process of setting up a personalized treatment plan that’s right for you.
- Expertise, Education, and Support in Managing Your Diabetes
Your diabetes diagnosis shouldn’t make you feel powerless. We won’t let it. At AdventHealth Zephyrhills, we’ve developed our entire diabetes program around empowering you to take charge of your condition, through knowledge and self-management.
As a first step, you’ll work with a specialized team that includes a physician, a certified diabetes educator, a registered dietitian, and a diabetes nurse educator. In addition to benefiting from their collaborative and knowledgeable care, you’ll have access to a comprehensive diabetes management education program that includes topics like:
- Exercise Routines and Other Physical Activity
- How to Monitor Blood Glucose
- Learning about Diabetes and How to Control It
- Meal Planning
- Nutrition Education
Beyond providing you with the care, tools, and education you need to manage your diabetes confidently, you can connect with others on this journey through our weekly support groups. They’re free and open to the public, and feature a different health topic and speaker every meeting. Like everything we do, you’ll find that it’s all a part of our whole-person approach to diabetes care. Learn more about our available Support Groups.
