Metro United Soccer Club (MUSC) and Shawnee Mission Health (SMH) have developed an injury and health awareness program that includes the use of SMH's comprehensive sports medicine program, SportsCare. Both the recreation side of MUSC and the premier side, KC Fusion, will benefit from the partnership, which includes free baseline testing for all applicable athletes, an injury clinic tailored to MUSC and KC Fusion athletes, and visits from SportsCare certified trainers to KC Fusion training sessions.
"We are very excited about the possibilities this new partnership with Metro United Soccer Club will bring," said Matt Humpert, outreach coordinator with SMH. "SportsCare will give these young athletes access to sports medicine services, which include Certified Athletic Trainers, physical therapists, a Concussion Management Program and one of the largest physician networks in Kansas City."
SMH will also provide certified trainers for special events throughout the year, including KC Fusions annual tryouts in June and the Kohls Cup recreation tournament in the fall.
"Metro United Soccer Club is very excited to partner with Shawnee Mission SportsCare," said Nate Houser, MUSC's executive director. "Providing first-class options for injury prevention and management is important for the 21st-century athlete. The ability to provide this option for our families enhances our mission of helping our players Develop, Inspire and Achieve."
