Monica Powers Named Chief Nursing Officer for AdventHealth South Overland Park Hospital

AdventHealth has named Monica Powers as Chief Nursing Officer of AdventHealth South Overland Park. Powers currently serves as Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Prior to her current role, she held various surgery leadership positions.

“I’m honored to have Monica Powers join the AdventHealth South Overland Park leadership team,” said Alan Verrill, MD, CEO of AdventHealth South Overland Park. “Monica is a passionate leader, known for her commitment to quality, safety, outstanding patient experience and physician satisfaction. Her clinical and operational expertise will be critical to growing our new hospital campus.”

Powers joined AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in 2005. She launched the bariatric surgery program at AdventHealth Lenexa and led the expansion of the department to the Bariatric Center of Kansas City. She was vital in expanding AdventHealth’s Shull Robotic Surgical Program, which has completed nearly 5,000 procedures. Most recently, she served as Incident Commander through AdventHealth Shawnee Mission’s COVID-19 response and participated in the planning and design of the South Overland Park campus.

Powers has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Iowa Wesleyan University and a Master of Business Administration from Baker University. She is a graduate of AdventHealth’s Executive Leadership Program and Kansas City’s Centurions Leadership Program. She was also named to Ingram’s 2020 list of Heroes in Healthcare.

“I look forward to leading the nursing team at AdventHealth South Overland Park and bringing the excellent patient experience and high-quality care that AdventHealth is known for to south Johnson and Miami Counties,” said Powers.

Powers joins AdventHealth South Overland Park, located in the Bluhawk Development at 165th Street and Antioch. The campus opened in 2017 and currently includes a 24/7 emergency department, imaging, laboratory and a medical office building with primary care, physical therapy and physician specialties. In fall 2019, AdventHealth South Overland Park began construction on a 193,000 square-foot, 85-bed inpatient hospital that will include a new birth center, surgical services, intensive care unit, heart care and more. The expansion will generate approximately 200 full-time equivalent jobs. The hospital is expected to open in October 2021.
