from 6:00pm - 9:00pm
AdventHealth Hendersonville, Duke Room
This FREE childbirth course taught by experienced childbirth educators and Baby Place nurses offers all the essentials to prepare families for labor, childbirth, and the care of their newborn.
Class one: understanding late pregnancy, stages of labor and identifying signs of labor; knowing when to leave for the hospital, and what to expect during the birth of baby.
Class two: demonstration and practice of labor-support measures, insight on pain relief options in labor such as epidurals or IV pain medications; review of medical procedures in childbirth, including inductions and cesarean birth.
Class three: education on breastfeeding, newborn care, and life after baby. Please bring a medium sized doll or stuffed animal to this session.
Is a tour of The Baby Place included with the class?
Tours of The Baby Place are not included with the childbirth classes. Expectant couples participating in our childbirth classes who are also delivering at AdventHealth Hendersonville are encouraged to register and attend a tour prior to the start of the childbirth class series. With this in mind, a tour of The Baby Place is conveniently provided at 5pm on the first Monday of the class series for participants to attend. Childbirth classes begin at 6pm. Register for a tour of The Baby Place by clicking here.
When is the best time during pregnancy to take this class?
The ideal time to take this class is near the beginning of the third trimester, which is on or shortly after to the 28th week of pregnancy.
A support person is attending the class with me, do I need to register them separately?
Registration of one support person, such as the father of the baby, partner or family member, is automatically included when the expectant parent signs up for class, no additional registration is needed for the support person. Please note, children should not attend this course.
I only plan to attend part of the class in the series, is that okay?
Participants should plan to attend all three classes as each class covers important information for the new parent. Because our childbirth classes often reach full capacity, registering for childbirth classes without plans to attend all three classes may prevent others who wish to attend from being able to register and attend.
I’m not having my baby at AdventHealth Hendersonville, can I still attend this class?
Yes, classes are available to all expectant parents in our community, no matter where they plan to deliver.
What time should I arrive for class?
Classes start at 6pm. Please arrive ten minutes early for class. This provides plenty of time to park, locate the classroom, sign-in, and get comfortable. Early arrival allows classes to begin and end on time.
Where are the classes located?
Classes are located at AdventHealth Hendersonville and take place in the Duke Room. To find the Duke Room enter through the main entrance of the hospital and take the elevators down to the ground level. When exiting the elevator turn to the right and follow signs to the Duke Room.
What should I bring to class?
Please bring a pen and paper for taking notes. Participants are also encouraged to bring along a water bottle and snacks for class. A complimentary workbook filled with information to prepare for baby’s birth is provided. For the third class on breastfeeding and newborn care, please bring a medium sized doll or a stuffed animal.
What happens if there's bad weather?
In the event of inclement weather or other outstanding circumstances, class will be canceled or rescheduled. An email will be sent to notify registrants of cancellations or schedule changes. Class cancellations due to weather conditions will often follow Buncombe and or Henderson County school closings.
