The local lung cancer community is coming together for the 9th Annual Shine a Light on Lung Cancer event. Calhoun will join an anticipated 200 cities where Shine a Lights will be taking place in healthcare facilities this November for Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

In conjunction with Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA), the Harris Radiation Therapy Center at Gordon Hospital is hosting the event on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 5:30 pm.

The purpose of this event is to bring hope, inspiration, and support to the Gordon County lung cancer community, said Lanell Jacobs, director of oncology services at Gordon Hospital. This event is one way we can honor those impacted by lung cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women; about 1 out of 4 cancer deaths are from lung cancer. Each year, more people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined.

The event is free, and light refreshments will be served. For questions or more information, please call Call706-879-5850.
