When a child is diagnosed with cancer, their family's world stops but mouths still need to be fed and bills still need to be paid. To aid families in this situation, Florida Hospital for Children is hosting a live-radio broadcast, in partnership with local celebrities and iHeartRadio, to raise funds for non-medical costs.
On Wednesday, Sept. 19, the lines will be open from 5:30-10 am for Central Floridians to speak with local celebrities, like Orlando Magic player Bo Outlaw, social media influencer LeJuan James and local business owner and chef John Rivers, and donate to help local families.
The live-radio broadcast will air on iHeart Media's Magic 107.7 FM.
Childhood cancer not only has a serious impact on the child's health, but also on the family, said Rivers, founder and CEO of 4Rivers Smokehouse. We are honored to support the Day of Giving initiative and to be prayerful supporters for these families in their time of need.
Donations made during Florida Hospital for Children's Day of Giving will go to the Pediatric Oncology Assistance Fund at the Florida Hospital Foundation. Contributions will help local families with expenses such gas, toiletries, monthly utility bills, groceries and rent payments.
When we think about childhood cancer, it is so much more than the medicine, the science and the research that go into fighting the disease. A side of the conversation that often gets missed is the financial stress and strain that the families go through to care for their child, said Brea Weiss, chairwoman of the board of Florida Hospital for Children. At Florida Hospital for Children, we want to care for the whole-family, and wrap them with the support they need.
