Protecting the Environment That Sustains Us

Our commitment to environmental sustainability is rooted in our mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ. We recognize the critical connection between a healthy planet and healthy people, and how environmental changes can exacerbate chronic conditions and strain health care systems. Our work in this area emerges from our focus on environmental stewardship and our need to integrate operational resiliency throughout the organization.

Our Climate Pledge Commitments

In October 2022, we reinforced our commitment to environmental sustainability by signing the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Sector Climate Pledge. This pledge outlines short--and long-term goals focused on organizational structure, comprehensive reporting and emissions reduction. We are on track to meet our goals of:

  • 50% Reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030

  • Net-Zero Emissions across all three scopes by 2050

Environmental Initiatives

  • Solar Panel Installation

    We are constructing an onsite solar panel system at our corporate campus, one of the largest privately owned solar projects in Florida, that will supply approximately 30% of the campus’ electrical needs.

  • Renewable Energy Use

    Our organization has two Virtual Power Purchase Agreements, which are expected to generate over 1 million megawatt hours of renewable electricity annually (equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 130,000 homes).

  • Creating Cleaner Air

    We are taking a deep dive into the effects of inhaled anesthetic emissions on our campuses and collaborating with clinical leadership to educate teams and implement reduction strategies.
