New Solar Project Will Power AdventHealth with Renewable Energy

Construction is underway on a 3,000-acre solar site in West Texas that, once complete, will generate the equivalent of up to 60-70% of AdventHealth’s systemwide electricity needs. The development of the site is the result of a long-term renewable power purchase agreement (RPPA) between AdventHealth and Stafford Solar, LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC.

The agreement will lead to 637,000 megawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually from the Stafford Solar project. Based on a US EPA calculator, that amount of electricity is equal to the annual electricity use of over 87,000 homes.

“We are honored to collaborate with AdventHealth and deliver clean, reliable energy to meet a majority of their electricity needs while also significantly advancing their clean energy goals,” said Mike DeBock, vice president of origination for NextEra Energy Resources.

As a signatory of the U.S. Health and Human Services Health Sector Climate Pledge, AdventHealth is committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions – emissions from on-site operations and purchased electricity – by 50% by 2030.

“This RPPA is a major step toward that goal and places AdventHealth on the path to utilize 100% renewable electricity when the project is completed in late 2025,” said Rob Roy, senior vice president, chief investment officer and environmental sustainability co-lead for AdventHealth.

This RPPA is one of many energy and sustainability initiatives underway at AdventHealth that highlight the organization’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

“We are grateful for such a strong strategic ally to move this important work forward and help us continue to reduce our environmental impact,” said Marisa Farabaugh, senior vice president, chief supply chain officer and environmental sustainability co-lead for AdventHealth.
