AdventHealth’s 2022 Internship Program

Welcome to AdventHealth! We are excited you have accepted our offer to become a part of AdventHealth’s 2022 Internship Program. We know that you have lots of questions about what you will be doing, how you should prepare and where you need to be. Don’t worry, we are here to help you navigate what to expect.

When you applied for the AdventHealth Internship you selected a specific track, and you will receive an email confirming your track and placement. These videos will provide you with an idea of what you could experience.

Hospital Operations

  • Hospital Operations are led by the C-Suite (e.g., CEO, COO, CFO, Chief Medical Officer, and Chief Nursing Officer). Collectively the leadership team is responsible for the overall operations, strategy, clinical excellence, and financial performance of the hospital and operating unit. The team interacts closely with AdventHealth corporate leadership and governing boards to ensure the mission and vision of the hospital facilities aligns with the organization as a whole.

    Interns will learn about hospital operations through exposure to the senior leadership team and then with key directors over service lines and various hospital areas. Across the four-week rotation the preceptor will teach interns how mission-centered leaders utilize the leadership cycle (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling) in a faith-based hospital setting. Additionally, interns will see how hospital decisions and goals are set, implemented, and measured at the departmental level.

Human Resources

  • Human Resources supports the employees and volunteers who extend the mission of our organization. HR is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, pay and benefits, and the process of evaluations of our staff. Other key responsibilities include workforce planning, employee relations, and employee engagement.

    Interns will spend up to four weeks learning from HR professionals. During this rotation, they will be engaged in hands-on projects and/or shadowing opportunities in the following areas: Recruitment and Onboarding, Benefits, Compensation, Operations, or Employee Engagement. Additionally, they will spend time with each Human Resources Director to better understand the scope and type of their teams.

Marketing and Strategic Planning

  • The Strategy Office leads the creation of the organization’s strategic framework and ensures that it is deployed and executed in all our markets. Furthermore, the Strategy Office supports the expansion and addition of new programs and new markets that advance the strategic agenda of the organization, promotes the AdventHealth brand and assures positive community and media relations.

    Interns will rotate through at least two departments of the Strategy Office: Consumer Marketing/Branding; Media Relations; Strategic Planning and Business Development; Market Research; Population Health. Interns will work on team and individual projects within the assigned department.

Physician Enterprise

  • The Physician Enterprise manages AdventHealth’s employed physicians along with their clinics/practices.

    Interns will spend time in actual physician offices, observing workflows in the office while learning practice operations and the vital role of a practice manager. Interns will assist with special projects and learn from medical group leaders. They will learn medical practice operations including areas such as finance, human resources, patient experience and other key services.

Supply Chain

  • Supply Chain Management is an integrated system, including analytics, contracting, procurement, distribution, and management, working together to ensure clinicians and others have supplies and services available, when and where needed, to provide excellent, compassionate care to our patients.

    Leadership interns within the Supply Chain Business Expertise will spend time at multiple sites, having one-on-one interactions and working alongside staff and leaders in various roles and locations within AdventHealth Supply Chain.

Information Technology (AIT)

  • AdventHealth Information Technology (AIT), supports AdventHealth with solutions in areas such as Technology Infrastructure, Digital Health, Information Security (Cybersecurity), Data Analytics and Clinical Informatics (EHR/EPIC). Interns will interact with leaders in one of these areas.

Revenue Cycle

  • Revenue Cycle is the area responsible for ensuring that the hospital/health system is appropriately reimbursed for services rendered. Revenue Cycle begins when a patient decides to seek care and includes all the activities completed to ensure that the hospital is paid for the services provided.

    Interns will rotate through the key areas of Revenue Cycle learning how the teams operate and interact with each other. Additionally, interns will interact directly with Revenue cycle leaders and team members, allowing for both shadowing and project-based learning.

Finance

  • Finance provides accurate financial information, analysis, and projections to assist operational leaders in decision making. Finance helps develop proper financial statements for internal and external use. Finance helps us plan for the future through budgeting and forecasting. Finance ensures the financial viability of our hospitals through stewardship of our financial resources.

    Interns will be exposed to various areas of finance such as budgeting, general accounting, and supply analytics. They will learn about key finance processes and methodologies through rotations, which will include observation, job shadowing, and project assignment. Additionally, interns will interact with accounting and finance leaders. Interns will learn to increase their financial knowledge and leadership skills while adding value to their teams.

Clinical Leadership

  • The Clinical leadership internship is designed to provide nursing students with a glimpse of what Nursing leadership involves. The intern is mentored by a Chief Nursing Officer and paired with various clinical leaders as they rotate through key clinical departments. The experience includes job shadowing, observation, and participating in projects that will enrich their experience.

CenturaHeath

  • CenturaHeath is a Joint operating agreement between CommonSpirit Health, and AdventHealth. This unique experience allows interns to be able to leverage the knowledge from multiple organizations and see how the two contribute to the system.

    Interns will rotate through multiple areas and have opportunities to work on and lead projects throughout the summer. Fridays are spent shadowing different departments outside of their rotations. i.e. shadowing the nursing floor, shadowing Physicians, viewing surgeries, spending time with environmental services. Additionally, interns will interact closely with Centura and hospital based leadership, gaining exposure to the ins and outs of running a hospital.
