Three AdventHealth hospitals in Florida’s Volusia and Flagler counties earn top Leapfrog honors

Safe, trusted care close to home earns national recognition for patient safety and quality of care

VOLUSIA AND FLAGLER COUNTIES, Fla. Residents of Volusia and Flagler counties now have national confirmation of something many rely on every day: safe, high-quality hospital care close to home.

AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway, AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach and AdventHealth DeLand have been named 2025 Top General Hospitals by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit that evaluates hospitals using independent measures of patient safety and quality.

AdventHealth DeLand, New Smyrna Beach and Palm Coast Parkway were named Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group.

Each year, Leapfrog evaluates thousands of hospitals, with only 151 nationwide receiving this recognition in 2025.

This new designation follows Leapfrog’s Fall Safety Grades, released in November. AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach and AdventHealth DeLand earned “A” grades, reflecting consistent performance in areas such as infection prevention, medication use and communication among care teams. AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway was not eligible for a safety grade because it has not been open long enough to be evaluated.

“Palm Coast Parkway became eligible for Leapfrog’s evaluation for the first time this year, following its opening in 2023, which makes this recognition especially meaningful,” said Michele Goeb-Burkett, senior vice president and chief nursing officer for the AdventHealth East Florida Division. “It also reflects the safety practices and care standards used across AdventHealth hospitals in this area – a shared approach that matters for families across Volusia and Flagler counties.”

For patients and families, the designation offers reassurance about the care available locally. Leapfrog’s evaluations focus on everyday safety practices that reduce medical errors and complications, support safer recoveries and help patients spend less time in the hospital.

Those practices often happen behind the scenes, from how medications are double-checked to how teams communicate when a patient’s condition changes.

Across Volusia and Flagler counties, AdventHealth hospitals follow shared standards and training, providing consistency for people who may receive care at more than one location. The Leapfrog recognition offers an independent snapshot of how hospitals are performing on measures that matter most to patients, reinforcing trust in the care available locally.
