Florida Hospital New Smyrna Honors Volunteers

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., April 25, 2018 In honor of National Volunteer Week, Florida Hospital New Smyrna hosted a volunteer appreciation luncheon at the New Smyrna Beach Brannon Center on April 18 for more than 60 volunteers. President Richard Nixon established National Volunteer Week with an executive order in 1974 to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers. Every sitting U.S. president since Nixon has issued a proclamation during National Volunteer Week. Florida Hospital New Smyrna's auxiliary is composed of approximately 150 volunteers who have been an integral part of the hospital since 1954. Auxilians share a common goal of providing compassionate service to patients, hospital staff and the community. In addition, these men and women serve as goodwill ambassadors for the hospital and raise funds for the hospitals equipment and services. Our volunteers are friendly, helpful, and professional, and the compassion they give our patients and visitors is an inspiration, said Ken Mattison, Florida Hospital New Smyrna CEO. Our Auxiliary's gift of service hasn't gone unnoticed; we are truly indebted for the time and talents they give our community. During the event, individual volunteers received awards for their years of service to Florida Hospital New Smyrna. The following volunteers were recognized for more than 20 years of service: Roberta Breden since 1995, Gloria Ferris since 1984, Joyce Kiether since 1997, Pat McVey since 1997, Dot Thomas since 1997, Frank Thomas since 1993, and Edward Winokur since 1994. Lillian Beaton was recognized for her gift of 15 years of service. The following volunteers were recognized for 10 years of service: Jerry Lehman, John Long and Ethel Roberts. The following volunteers were recognized for five years of service: Veda Blaikie, Bernie Haberman, Steve Kenney, Carol Kessler and Bernice Roberson.
