AdventHealth South Overland Park has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart and Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Primary Stroke Certification.
“Primary Stroke Certification recognizes healthcare organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “We commend AdventHealth South Overland Park for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and to strengthen its clinical program to drive safer, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals served.”
In March 2025, AdventHealth South Overland Park underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with related certification standards including delivery and facilitation of care, program management and performance improvement. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“We congratulate AdventHealth South Overland Park for this outstanding achievement,” says Nancy Brown, chief executive officer, the American Heart and Stroke Association. “This certification reflects its commitment to providing the highest quality of care for stroke patients.”
This certification comes after AdventHealth South Overland Park earned several back-to-back state-wide and national accolades. AdventHealth South Overland Park, which opened in 2021, recently earned the High 5 for Mom & Baby recognition and was named a 2023 Top Hospital by the Leapfrog Group. In addition, in 2025, the hospital completed expansion of the 5th floor which is now exclusively dedicated to caring for patients in the Intensive Care Unit and Progressive Care Unit; and in August 2024, the Birth Center celebrated completion of construction on its expanded facility – doubling in size to better serve the growing needs of the community.
“Since we have opened, we have made it our goal to offer all patients exceptional, whole-person care, where they need it and when they need it the most,” said Dallas Purkeypile, president and chief executive officer of AdventHealth South Overland Park. “This certification is a testament to the continuation of how far we have come in less than 4 years as we continue to grow to meet patient needs and introduce procedures and experts in stroke treatment and management to help our neighbors in Overland Park not only survive a stroke, but thrive post recovery and beyond.”
