From first flutters to first feedings, this is a precious time in your life. We’re here to make it the best it can be. Nearly 5,000 mothers a year choose our AdventHealth Birth Center, formerly known as the Shawnee Mission Birth Center. Our name may have changed, but our team of doctors, nurses, midwives and staff are the familiar faces you’ve counted on before and seen out in the community.
Every day, we provide the compassionate, expert and exceptional care mothers, fathers and families come to expect from our facilities. That commitment is just one of the reasons the Birth Center is Johnson County’s leader in the care of women, babies and families.
Here, we keep the whole family in mind. We combine comforting amenities, leading pregnancy care, advanced technologies and personalized labor and delivery options.
No matter your approach to delivery, the board-certified obstetricians, maternal-fetal specialists, Level III NICU, trained nursing staff and certified midwives are here to support you on your entire journey. We’ll be by your side for preconception and pregnancy care; labor and delivery care; postpartum support and beyond.

AdventHealth Labor and Delivery Visitation Guide
Thank you for choosing AdventHealth for your birthing experience. We know how important family is during this time and want to give you guidance on what to expect for visitors.
Labor:
- Two guests can be in the room during labor
- It is highly recommended guests wear a hospital mask anytime they are outside of the laboring mother's room
After Delivery:
- Four guests, including siblings, are allowed in the mother’s room at a time
- The responsible adult overseeing siblings cannot leave siblings with mom unaccompanied as she is a patient
- It is highly recommended that all siblings ages two and over wear a hospital mask anytime they are outside of the mother’s room
- One adult may stay the night with the mother, but siblings are not allowed to stay the night
- NICU visitation is limited to the two banded parents/caregivers only

We know that life with a newborn, or preparing for one, can be overwhelming at times. Not only do we want to help you give your child the best start to life, we know that parents need care, too. That's why we've introduced AdventHealth ParentCare. This program is designed to help guide you through the parenting journey. Through AdventHealth ParentCare, you'll have access to our Behavior Checker® tool, classes and AdventHealth experts.

Your child's safety is your biggest concern. It's ours too. Our dedicated, specially trained staff is here 24/7, helping you down any path you envision: from a low-intervention birth to a C-section or anything in between.
Our Birth Center is equipped with the latest in safety standards, including a Hugs® Infant security system, while our next-generation wireless fetal monitoring helps moms like you walk around during labor (which studies show can shorten delivery times).
