- Limited Visitor Policy
AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Birth Center has a temporary no visitor policy. This helps protect our patients and team members, prevent further spread of COVID-19 in our community and conserve our supplies. We encourage you to connect with your loved ones via calls, text, email, social media and video chat, and our team members are happy to help facilitate that when needed.
- No visitors will be permitted in the Birth Center except for two support people for labor, delivery and the duration of your hospital stay. You and your two support persons will receive a hospital band, which will serve as identification of your guests for the duration of your stay.
- NICU visitation is limited to the two banded parents/caregivers only.
- Exceptions are made for special circumstances, including adoptions and surrogacy. Please alert your nurse if this is the case and arrangements will be made.
All team members, medical staff, patients and permitted visitors will be screened upon entering the Birth Center. Each person will sanitize their hands, put on a face mask and check their temperature. Anyone who is not a patient who has a temperature above 100.4 degrees or answers yes to any of the following questions will not be allowed to enter.
- Within the last 48 hours, have you experienced a fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea?
- Have you had prolonged close contact with someone with known or suspected COVID-19 in the last 14 days?
- Have you tested positive or inconclusive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days or are you awaiting COVID-19 test results?
We are testing all pregnant women delivering at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission for COVID-19. Moms with a scheduled C-section or induction will be contacted to schedule a COVID-19 test prior to delivery. All other moms who present in labor will be tested upon arrival to the Birth Center. Studies have shown that individuals can carry – and spread – the virus even when they don’t show symptoms. Our goal with testing every patient is to protect our moms, babies and team members from contracting COVID-19. Support persons will not be tested. For any questions about testing, please talk with your OB/Gyn.
