Breastfeeding Online
This method of preparing to breastfeed might be a good fit if you prefer to learn at your own pace, have been placed on bed rest or if you work/travel schedules prevent you from committing to a traditional class. This self-paced course is a mix of self-study, reading and video clips via an interactive website. Access to a certified breastfeeding educator is available through email and phone as you work through the class. No refunds available after access code has been emailed to the enrollee. Must have internet access.

Breastfeeding Classes: Getting Off to a Good Start
The breastfeeding classes at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission’s Birth Center provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment and cover everything from the basics of positioning and latching, to pumping and storage once you must return to work. Partners are also encouraged to participate

Breastfeeding Returning to Work and Pumping
Are you wondering how pumping and returning to work works or what pump you should buy? Are you planning on giving your baby a bottle with breast milk in it and are wondering about storage guidelines or want to learn what baby carriers are easiest to breastfeed in? If so, this class is for you! This class covers from the time babies are about three weeks old on and answers questions such as how to bottle feed a breastfed baby, what type of pump works best for you, pump care and breast milk storage. Dads and partners are encouraged to attend.

Breastfeeding Warm Line
Once you’ve returned home with your baby, you can access our international board-certified lactation consultants for answers to your questions seven days a week via our Breastfeeding Warm Line. Messages left before 3 pm will be returned the same day.

Breastfeeding Support Group
Share the joys and challenges of breastfeeding when you attend this group for moms and babies of all ages. Facilitated by a lactation consultant, there’s no registration or fee to attend. A baby scale is available to measure progress.
The group meets every Tuesday from 10 am to 12 pm at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, 9100 W. 74th Street, Shawnee Mission, KS 66204, in the Shawnee Mission Room. Enter through the first floor of the Birth Center and follow the signs for the support group.

Outpatient Breastfeeding Clinic
Get hands-on help and answers to your questions during an outpatient breastfeeding clinic visit. Available to new and expectant mothers, the fee includes a one-hour visit with an international board-certified lactation consultant.
Support for the Most Difficult Times: Postpartum and Bereavement
20% of moms experience some type of mood disorder after giving birth. It’s common for these changes to feel overwhelming. To help navigate postpartum emotions, the Birth Center at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission provides support options for a variety of needs and preferences.

Postpartum Support Groups
Learn valuable tips for managing emotional changes while bonding with other mothers who understand the challenge of caring for an infant while caring for yourself. Our postpartum support group meets weekly and a depression risk assessment is given at regular intervals to monitor your improvement.

If you experience the loss of a baby or need the confidentiality of one-on-one treatment, we can help with individualized attention.
