AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida is honored to recognize Dr. Steven Smith as our volunteer of the month for May! Dr. Smith is currently the Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of AdventHealth Research Institute guiding the research vision for AdventHealth. Dr. Smith also serves as the Associate Center Director, AdventHealth – Moffit Cancer Center Partnership. Smith’s scientific work bridges the gap between cellular and molecular biology and clinical care. Dr. Smith serves in a volunteer capacity through Foundation Board Service with the Cancer Institute Foundation Board and the Foundation’s Executive Board. He regularly helps guide grateful patients and aligned partners to match their passion with researchers who work at the cutting edge of clinical care at AdventHealth through the Foundation.
When Dr. Smith arrived to Orlando in 2010, he joined the Employee Giving program. He soon attended the Foundation’s Golden Gala where he met David Collis and connected with the AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida team. Dr. Smith shared that he was so impressed by the Foundation’s commitment to the mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ and their energy and focus on the needs of patients and consumers.
Since then, Dr. Smith has stated that his work with the foundation allows him the pleasure of meeting people who are interested in learning more about AdventHealth and their research. Dr. Smith’s role allows him to be involved in a wide range of projects from pediatrics to Alzheimer research. It’s through these avenues, that Dr. Smith has gotten to meet so many people within AdventHealth and the community we serve.
