Partnership brings life-changing orthopedic care to underinsured patients

The pain in Jean McMichael’s hip became so bad, she stopped doing simple things many people may take for granted.

“I [didn’t] go grocery shopping anymore because it [was] too much. It [was] too much to go up and down the grocery aisles. I [didn’t] make big meals anymore because trying to be in the kitchen and getting everything together, [was] just too strenuous,” McMichael said.

McMichael had nearly lost hope when her primary care physician told her about Operation Walk USA, which partners with hospitals and physicians to provide life-changing hip and knee surgeries, at no-cost, for patients who might not otherwise be able to afford them.

“I think Operation Walk USA's mission is a natural fit with Rothman Orthopaedics’ world class orthopedic care and AdventHealth’s mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ through community based, whole person care,” said Dr. A.J. Clair, an orthopedic surgeon with Rothman Orthopaedics at AdventHealth.
