This creamy sunflower seed butter has only 2 ingredients and takes less than 30 minutes to make—and is much cheaper than buying it in the store. An excellent option for those with nut allergies, use this sun butter as an easy and delicious substitute for nut butters in your favorite recipes. Eat it on carrots, celery, toast, apples, PB&J, smoothies, cereal, a spoon . . . the possibilities are endless.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 3 cups raw sunflower seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Lightly toast sunflower seeds on a baking sheet 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Allow to cool a few minutes while you get your food processor ready.
  4. Process sunflower seeds in food processor 30 seconds, then add salt.
  5. Continue to process at 1–2-minute increments, scraping down the sides of the processor bowl.
  6. After 9 minutes, scrape one more time, and process 1 more minute.
  7. At 10 minutes of processing, your nut butter should be creamy and smooth!
  8. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

NOTE: Depending on your food processor, the prep time may vary.
