Diagnostic imaging is used to help diagnose conditions and track your progress during treatment. Some common diagnostic imaging tests are ultrasounds, X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans, PET scans and DEXA scans, to name a few. Most of these tests are non-invasive and pain free. Some tests may require a special dye to be injected and blood to be drawn in order for the medical specialists to view areas of the body more clearly and to make sure your kidneys are able to pass the dye. Most tests require the patient to lie still for an extended period of time, but you will be provided with blankets, pillows or other means to make sure you are comfortable. Be sure to talk to your doctor or the person administering the test if you have a fear of tight spaces or any other concerns. Diagnostic imaging tests are safe and easy for your doctor to analyze for any conditions or to track the progression of your treatment.
