Constipation
While many people experience occasional constipation, chronic sufferers of this condition should seek medical evaluation and treatment to rule out an underlying medical issue and obtain relief from their discomfort. Usually, constipation can be directly attributed to dietary issues, including a lack of fiber-rich foods and failure to consume enough liquids. However, blockages of the colon or rectum, neurological problems and other serious health issues can be involved. Having fewer than three bowel movements per week can indicate a chronic constipation issue that should be evaluated by a medical professional. Depending on the cause of a person’s chronic constipation, treatments may range from dietary and lifestyle modifications to laxatives and other medications, and surgery.
