Breast Cancer Surgery
Major advancements have been made in the surgical treatment of breast cancer over the last decade, providing many patients with an improved prognosis for recovery with far fewer long-term cosmetic impacts than earlier surgeries. Patients today can take advantage of a variety of breast-sparing procedures as well as advanced breast reconstruction following their initial surgery. Depending on the type and stage of a patient’s cancer, recommended treatments may range from lumpectomy – surgical removal of the tumor along with a margin of surrounding tissue – to bilateral skin-sparing mastectomy, where cancerous tissue is removed via a small incision to leave an “envelope” of skin that can be filled with an implant or the patient’s own tissue. Nipple and areola-sparing mastectomy is another recently available breast-conserving procedure. Our breast surgeons have unsurpassed experience in these and more traditional forms of breast cancer surgery, with outstanding patient outcomes to show for it.
