ORANGE CITY, Fla., May 3, 2018 Florida Hospital Fish Memorial is the only facility in Volusia or Flagler counties to earn certification for spinal surgery by the Joint Commission, an independent, not-for-profit national organization.
Joint Commission certification is recognized as a symbol of quality that reflects an organizations commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
To achieve this designation, the Joint Commission requires hospitals to demonstrate compliance with national standards and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for three distinct procedures:
- the surgical removal of the whole or a part of an intervertebral disc (known as a discectomy),
- a surgery to remove the back of one or more vertebrae to give access to the spinal cord or to relieve pressure on nerves (known as a laminectomy), and
- spinal fusion, a surgical technique that joins two or more vertebrae.
This accolade complements two other orthopedic recognitions for Florida Hospital Fish Memorial. In addition to earning certification for spinal surgery by the Joint Commission, the Orange City hospital has also earned the Joint Commissions Gold Seal of Approval for total hip and total knee replacement surgery.
Earning these certifications demonstrates Florida Hospital Fish Memorials commitment to providing a higher standard of service.
