Since 2012, Florida Hospital Waterman has been the only hospital in Lake County to offer the Mako partial knee replacement procedure. In September of this year they were proud to also become the first and only hospital in Lake County to offer Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Total Hip Replacement. The team of orthopedic surgeons at Florida Hospital Waterman have the most experience in Central Florida working with a robotic-assisted surgery system for joint replacement. The new hip replacement technology is an innovative treatment option for adults suffering from hip joint pain typically caused by arthritis. Using the robotic-arm assisted surgery system surgeons are able to more accurately plan and place implants, potentially reducing variability within the total hip replacement procedure.
Being the only hospital in the area to offer the latest advancements in joint replacement technology is something that we pride ourselves on, says Heather Wood, RN, MN, Director of Surgical Services, Florida Hospital Waterman. The Mako system allows the surgeon to make the proper adjustments during surgery as necessary and guides the surgeon to help provide the most precise placement and alignment of the implant. We are incredibly excited to be able to offer this to our patients.
Since offering the new technology in September, Jon Radnothy, DO, Orthopedic Surgeon, has completed four successful hip replacements using the Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery system.
For Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery, a 3D virtual model of a patients unique anatomy is created based on a CT scan of the patients own hip and is then used to create a personalized pre-operative plan. During surgery, we are able to guide the robotic-arm preparing the hip socket and positioning the implant, says Jon Radnothy, DO, Orthopedic Surgeon, Florida Hospital Waterman. The Mako system may not only increase accuracy but may also result in less blood loss, greater sparing of the bone and higher function post-surgery compared to manual total hip replacement.
In addition to offering the most advanced orthopedic technology available in Lake County, Florida Hospital Waterman is the only hospital in the area to achieve the Joint Commissions Gold Seal of Approval for Knee and Hip replacement. The certification recognizes Florida Hospital Waterman Joint Replacement Centers dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commissions state-of-the- art standards for quality and safety.
