Dr. Daas Hosts Seminar on Colorectal Cancer

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., December 9, 2016 On Dec. 7, the community joined Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center for a seminar about colorectal cancer featuring gastroenterologist Dr. Adel Daas.

Excluding skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women, and it is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. In 2016 alone, it is expected to cause nearly 50,000 deaths.

Over lunch, Daas explained to attendees that colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer.

Regular colorectal cancer screening is one of the most powerful weapons against colorectal cancer, he said. It can take as many as 10 to 15 years for a polyp to develop into colorectal cancer. Regular screening can prevent many cases of colorectal cancer altogether by finding and removing certain types of polyps before they have the chance to turn into cancer.
