Each year, more than 45,000 health care IT professionals, clinicians, executives and vendors convene for the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Global Conference and Exhibition. As in years past, AdventHealth participated in sharing and learning the latest health IT innovations and best practices from around the globe.
At the conference hosted in Orlando, Florida, two AdventHealth facilities were awarded the highest level of achievement for attaining the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) stage 7 status. AdventHealth Gordon and AdventHealth Murray were both recognized for their advanced electronic patient record systems that help caregivers provide wholistic and individualized care. They join AdventHealth’s other stage 7 capable facilities which now totals 15 hospitals.
The conference also featured keynotes from prominent health system leaders, roundtable discussions on specific topics within health care IT, workshops to demonstrate new concepts, and exhibitors sharing the latest innovations to help make health care information more effective, more accessible and safer.
Also, at the conference, the Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC), a coalition of health care leaders that work jointly to develop policies, plans and programs, unveiled a new report called “Advancing Interoperability and Data Access,” which outlined the need for a more seamless and connected electronic health records infrastructure in health care. AdventHealth President/CEO Terry Shaw, who is a member of the HLC, took part in a panel discussion, “Taking Action: Insights from CEOs and the Federal Government,” that highlighted key takeaways from the report and ways to collaborate on solutions that increase interoperability.
The AdventHealth corporate campus in Altamonte Springs, Florida, was chosen to host a multinational group of health care leaders from across three continents. The group learned of AdventHealth’s journey to adopting and utilizing the electronic medical record to improve patient care.
“Hosting this delegation has allowed us to demonstrate how we leverage the electronic medical record to provide our patients with individualized, safe care,” said Nick Scartz, vice president and corporate chief analytics officer at AdventHealth. “We hope that sharing our experiences and learnings will help other organizations overcome barriers and use technology to improve patient outcomes.”
