AdventHealth Daytona Beach recognized registered nurses Angela Crocker and Danielle Dragone with the DAISY award.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses.
The husband of a patient nominated Crocker, a nurse on the AdventHealth Daytona Beach medical care unit.
“My wife was admitted as a hospice patient. This nurse went above and beyond for us. She brought comfort to my wife, myself and the rest of our family during this difficult time,” the patient’s husband wrote in a nomination for Crocker. “On Saturday, most of the family was in the room and this nurse took the extra time with my wife’s elderly mother. She soothed her and asked her about the pictures she brought. She went out of her way to comfort all of us. She is truly an extraordinary nurse.”
Dragone is nurse on the surgical progressive care unit at AdventHealth Daytona Beach and received multiple nominations from both coworkers and patients.
“This nurse took extra time for me, explained everything and helped me understand what my doctors had set for my recovery. She held my hand when I was upset and encouraged me during my many walks around the unit on the days after my surgery,” one patient wrote in a nomination for Dragone. “She went the extra mile for me and my husband during my stay.”
“She is an outstanding nurse and the hospital is lucky to have her,” said another patient.
In recognition of this honor, both Crocker and Dragone received an award pin, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the Healers Touch by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. Both of their units also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
Created in 1999, more than 2,400 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 14 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
