Direct Access Rehab
- No Referral Needed for Physical Therapy
-
Do you have a sore muscle? Old sports injury? Or a sprained ankle? Well, you can save time and money by going directly to physical therapy (PT) without the need for a physician referral. Florida is a direct-access state that allows patients to seek treatment for PT without going to your doctor first for non-serious or recurring injuries.
Whether you’re a weekend warrior or marathon runner, AdventHealth Waterman Rehab can get you quickly back in the game. To ensure quality care, our direct-access physical therapists undergo additional training and testing.

- Direct Benefits
-
- Convenient access
- Decreased cost
- Faster recovery
- Low-risk care — no surgery, injections, drugs or radiation
- Patients and Injuries
-
We can help professional athletes with recurring sports injuries, long-distance runners and existing patients that we’ve treated previously. Those with back pain that disappears and then reappears during certain activities. Or those adverse to surgery, injections or drugs. If it doesn’t require an emergency-room visit — such as a sore shoulder that is still painful weeks after your flag-football game — you should try direct-access physical therapy for relief.
- Injuries that fail to heal
- Non-emergency injuries
- Recurring back pain
- Sprains, strains, aches or pains
- Why Physical Therapy?
-
Our physical therapists perform a full musculoskeletal evaluation to determine if this is the correct treatment for your injury. These specialized tests — which take into account medical history, how the injury occurred and how the tissue is healing — are used to find the root cause of the problem. Then a care plan is created to address your specific recovery needs. Generally, the earlier a patient intervenes with therapy, the fewer visits that are required for the injury. If the consensus is that physical therapy will not help your particular injury, we’ll refer you to a specialist to assist you.
- Preparing for Your Appointment
-
Wear clothing that will allow the therapist to see the area of concern, and that will enable you to move through a full range of motion so your injury can be accurately evaluated. Additionally, please bring shoes that you would use for exercise.
