A Spirit of Strength, A Legacy of Love: Honoring David’s Fight Against Cancer
David, a shining example of resilience, chose to live with joy and gratitude even in the face of a Stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis.
Grounded in his belief, “I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13), David refused to let his illness define him. Instead, he radiated light and embraced each day with purpose.
Strength in Every Strand: Leading in Compassion
Gayle Ackerman, the lead volunteer at Strands of Hope Wig Boutique at AdventHealth Waterman, is dedicated to helping women regain their confidence while facing medical hair loss. A radiation therapist, Gayle is committed to making sure every woman who walks through the boutique’s doors feels supported by helping them find the perfect wig —matching style, color and length to restore a sense of normalcy. Gayle highlights that the boutique is a sanctuary of healing, warmth and respect.

- How to Become a Hospital Volunteer

Volunteering at our hospital is a way to bring comfort and healing to those who need it most. Since 1958, our volunteers have helped power our hospital through their dedicated volunteer service. Together they’ve given more than 3-million hours of service and raised more than $4.8 million.
Here’s what you’ll need to do to join our team of outstanding hospital volunteers:
- Fill out a Volunteer Inquiry Form
- Pass a background check
- Attend mandatory orientation and training
- Abide by AdventHealth Waterman policies and procedures
- Attend an annual education class
- Participate in an annual performance review
As a hospital volunteer, you’ll receive:
- A free meal for every four hours of service
- Free flu vaccinations
- Service awards
- Access to our Conry CREATION Life fitness center
Plus, you’ll have the joy of knowing you made a difference in your community.
