Pulmonology Practice

On the campus of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, we have a physician practice dedicated to pulmonary care: AdventHealth Medical Group Pulmonology at Shawnee Mission. With expertise in pulmonary disease, critical care, internal medicine and sleep medicine, our experienced clinicians are well equipped to provide expert care for both acute and chronic pulmonary problems. Conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, sleep apnea, lung cancer and pulmonary hypertension are diseases our providers specialize in treating. Our team of Board-certified physicians will work closely with you to create an individualized plan of care to improve your condition and your quality of life.

Our physicians also see patients in the hospital and staff the Intensive Care Unit as the intensivist on call 24 hours a day. Many of our patients are comforted to know that when they require hospitalization, if they choose AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, they will be seeing a provider from the AdventHealth Medical Group Pulmonology team.

All of our physicians manage sleep disorders in the office and each sleep study is interpreted by a physician who is Board-certified in sleep medicine. For more information on AdventHealth Shawnee Mission's sleep disorder center, accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, visit our Sleep Care page.

Other Resources

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehab is a health maintenance program for patients diagnosed with chronic lung conditions, including COPD, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis and asthma. It is an exercise and education program where each participant receives an individualized exercise plan, along with encouragement and support. The program meets twice per week for 12 weeks, and is monitored by certified respiratory therapists, exercise specialists and an AdventHealth Shawnee Mission pulmonologist who serves as the medical director for the program.

Participants often see many benefits, such as:

  • Increased understanding of their lung condition
  • Increased physical endurance
  • Improved quality of life
  • Decreased hospital admission
  • Friendship and understanding from others dealing with similar health issues

Most insurance companies cover at least some of the cost for Pulmonary Rehab; if there is a cost to the patient, it is usually minimal. As a courtesy, a member of our team will call your insurer prior to your first appointment to determine benefits.

For more information, contact AdventHealth Medical Group Pulmonology at Shawnee Mission at Call913-632-9770.
