AdventHealth Sebring remains safest hospital in the Heartland Region

Leapfrog Spring 2021

AdventHealth Sebring has once again maintained safety as its top priority, even during a pandemic, by receiving the highest marks possible for patient safety and quality with a Leapfrog grade “A” from the prestigious Leapfrog Group. The safety grade is awarded based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other harm to patients in their care.

“Putting the patient first has always been a focal point for our organization,” said Randy Surber President and CEO for AdventHealth Sebring, Wauchula and Lake Placid. “This Leapfrog recognition highlights our commitment to strive for the highest standards of patient care, safety and transparency.”

AdventHealth Sebring proactively implemented a set of best safety practices to continue delivering high-quality patient care and remain one of the safest hospitals in the United States:

  • Frontline workers participate in rigorous training to enhance hand hygiene practices. Sanitary equipment, such as paper towels, soap dispensers, and hand sanitizer were strategically placed throughout the hospital to prevent infections.
  • Hospital leaders launched the “safety huddle” to enhance daily communication between team members. The purpose is to proactively flag safety issues and identify safety concerns for patients. The initiative is proven to reduce medical errors, and other practices that may be potentially harmful to patients.

“We are thrilled to have a long-standing relationship with the Heartland community,” said Elsie Graves, Chief Nursing Officer for AdventHealth Sebring, Wauchula, and Lake Placid. “Even in a pandemic, our team members continue to execute a robust set of safety guidelines to ensure patients continue receiving high-quality and whole person care.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent. The results are free to the public.
