Sometimes kids and their families need extra help to navigate multiple, ongoing medical issues that require the expertise of more than one specialist. AdventHealth for Children, formerly Florida Hospital for Children, understands how daunting multiple health conditions can be, especially when it impacts your child and even more so when one course of treatment affects another. Our Coordinated Care for Kids program is designed to ensure that children with special health care needs receive the evaluation, treatment and overall attention they need to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Coordinated Care for Kids

Special Care for Extraordinary Kids

The Coordinated Care for Kids (CCK) program is here to ensure children with special health care needs receive the best possible care, tailored to their unique needs.

This comprehensive program extends treatment outside of the hospital and is designed for patients with the following conditions.

• Chronic conditions expected to last longer than one year
• Complex conditions requiring two or more subspecialists
• Palliative conditions that are life-limiting

Complex Care for Children

Our complex pediatric care program focuses on providing your child with the full continuum of care that he or she needs according to their own unique and evolving needs. For example, our multidisciplinary team may provide evaluation and treatment for a child with a brain injury, spinal cord issue, heart defect or complex wound. We also provide complete developmental assessments, pulmonary assessment and treatments for children whose medical conditions require respiratory assistance including a ventilator, IV medication or non-invasive respiratory monitoring.

Craniofacial and Cleft Palate

We are the only craniofacial and cleft palate clinic in Central Florida to employ state of the art endoscopic procedures performed by both pediatric neurosurgical and plastic surgical doctors, each with at least 20 years of experience.

Neurofibromatosis Clinic

Neurofibromatosis is a genetically transmitted disorder in which nerve tissue grows tumors that may be harmless or cause serious damage by compressing nerves and other tissues.

The second-largest Neurofibromatosis clinic in the country, our highly skilled specialists are committed to providing accurate diagnoses and improving the quality of life for those living with NF.

Multidisciplinary Clinics

Many complex childhood diseases require close collaboration between specialists in multiple, specific areas of expertise. AdventHealth for Children has the second-largest neurofibromatosis clinic in the country, with more than 400 patients visiting us each year. Our multidisciplinary pediatric care team provides coordinated diagnosis, support and education, access to clinical trials, specialty referrals, condition monitoring and follow-ups, plus genetic counseling and more. A genetically transmitted disorder in which nerve tissue grows tumors that may be harmless or cause serious damage to nerves and other tissues, neurofibromatosis is a serious condition that requires specialized medical assistance to keep under control.

Dr. Guedes has been practicing medicine in Central Florida since 1983. He has served as the medical director of both the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Medical-Surgical Unit at Florida Hospital for Children. He specializes in providing exceptional care to children with complex medical issues.
