Just as a classroom grade gives parents feedback about their child’s academic progress, hospital safety grades are meant to inform you and your family about the safest place to receive medical care.

Reported by The Leapfrog Group, these grades for performance help keep hospitals accountable for patient safety with a goal of reducing the errors, injuries, accidents and infections that can happen while you’re in a hospital’s care.

In fall 2019, The Leapfrog group recognized more than 75 percent of eligible AdventHealth hospitals with the distinguished perfect “A” score in patient safety. This is a much higher rate when compared to the national average where only 33 percent of hospitals earned the top grade for meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. These ratings demonstrate a long-standing tradition of putting your safety first — and make us a leader in providing safe, whole-person care to your local community.

About Leapfrog Ratings

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are considered the gold standard measure for patient safety. Using national performance measures, The Leapfrog Group determines a hospital’s ability to keep patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

Several different sources of data, including information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, measure a hospital’s performance within 28 different safety measures in four main categories:

  1. Care management for hospital patients
  2. Infections and injuries
  3. Maternity care
  4. Medication safety

The results give each hospital a number score converted into one of five letter grades. “A” represents the best Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, followed in order by “B,” “C,” “D,” and “F.”

We’re Humbled by Your Trust

Only a limited number of hospitals have earned this hard-to-achieve “A” rating. At AdventHealth, we’re honored to have earned it consistently over the years, and believe that our performance at each of our hospital locations directly reflects our culture of putting patients and families first.

While we’re honored to receive this recognition, in the end, we’re not motivated by a letter grade.

We’re humbled at the trust patients place in us when they or their loved ones visit an AdventHealth hospital location. To us, the value at the heart of effective patient safety is simple: Treat people the way we’d like our own families to be treated. When we do that, safety comes naturally.
