Just as restaurants, hotels and attractions earn ratings and reviews for their level of service, hospital safety grades are awarded to inform you and your family about the safest place to receive medical care.

Reported by The Leapfrog Group, these grades for performance help keep hospitals accountable for patient safety with a goal of reducing the errors, injuries, accidents and infections that can happen while you’re in a hospital’s care.

This fall, The Leapfrog Group recognized the majority of eligible AdventHealth hospitals with the distinguished “A” score for patient safety — significantly exceeding the national benchmark of only one third of hospitals that met this grade. These ratings demonstrate a long-standing tradition of putting your safety first, and make us a leader in providing safe, whole-person care to your local community.

Several of our hospitals were also awarded an even more exclusive level of recognition: Top Hospital. Hospitals who receive this honor are noted for their excellent systems in place to prevent medical errors, high-quality maternity care and extremely low infection rates. It means a lot to us to be recognized for this commitment and to be trusted by our communities.

About Leapfrog Ratings

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are considered the gold standard measure for patient safety. Using national performance measures, The Leapfrog Group determines a hospital’s ability to keep patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

Several different sources of data, including information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, measure a hospital’s performance within 27 different safety measures in four main categories:

  1. Care management for hospital patients
  2. Infections and injuries
  3. Medication safety
  4. Patient satisfaction

The results give each hospital a number score converted into one of five letter grades. “A” represents the best Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, followed in order by “B,” “C,” “D,” and “F.”

What does AdventHealth’s Leapfrog “A” Rating in Patient Safety Mean to You?

When you need medical care, navigating your options can be overwhelming — especially in an emergency. But when your family’s health is at stake, there’s nothing more important than choosing a hospital with a strong safety record. That’s why our teams are inspired each and every day to do their best — so your decision on a hospital is an easy one.

You can count on us to:

  • Administer safe medications
  • Create an enhanced culture of safety
  • Develop strong communication between staff, patients and families
  • Excel at hand hygiene procedures
  • Follow quality checks to prevent mistakes
  • Prevent complications from surgery
  • Reduce falls, trauma and severe pressure ulcers
  • Reduce infection rates

Enhanced Safety Guidelines

Your health and safety have always been our top priority. Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have expanded our policies, procedures and products to protect you and our caregivers.

These added safety measures include:

Universal Mask Use

We’re stocked with safety supplies and have personal protective equipment (PPE) including masks for all patients, visitors and team members at our facilities. If you arrive without your own mask, we’ll be happy to provide you with one.

Temperature Checks

Have peace of mind that everyone you come into contact with has their temperature checked. Every facility, every time.

Social Distancing

Things like plexiglass barriers and signage, as well as new arrangements for furniture and pathways in our facilities, help everyone keep a safe distance from one another.

Separate Waiting and Treatment Areas

COVID-19-positive and symptomatic patients are carefully quarantined away from other patients and visitors. But rest assured that whether you’re sick or well, you receive the same compassionate, high-quality care.

Contactless Options

If you prefer to keep your distance as much as possible right now, we understand. Many providers are offering virtual visits that can be scheduled anytime, anywhere. When you have an in-person appointment, you can choose to register, pay and check out online, and even wait in your car until a provider is ready to see you.

Thank You for Your Trust

Only a limited number of hospitals have earned this hard-to-achieve “A” rating from Leapfrog. We’re honored to have earned it consistently over the years and believe our performance at each of our hospital locations directly reflects our culture of putting patients and families first.

While we’re honored to receive this recognition, in the end, we’re not motivated by a letter grade.

We know it has been a difficult year for many, and we’re humbled at the trust patients place in us when they visit an AdventHealth location.

To us, the value at the heart of effective patient safety is simple: Treat people the way we’d like our own families to be treated. When we do that, safety comes naturally. Click here to find an AdventHealth location near you.
