Uroflow post-void residuals is a term that refers to the amount of urine that remains in the bladder after the patient has finished urinating during a uroflow/urodynamics test. The uroflow test itself simply requires the patient to urinate into a special urinal or toilet that can measure the speed, volume and flow pattern of the patient’s urination. To determine post-void residuals (PVR), a catheter can be inserted to completely drain the bladder, or a bladder ultrasound is used to visualize the amount of fluid that is still in the bladder. The test is helpful in diagnosing an enlarged prostate or urethral stricture that may require medical intervention.
