Chest pain in children should be evaluated by your primary care physician for possible referral to a cardiologist or pediatric cardiologist, but is not necessarily related to a heart condition. In fact, digestive problems (such as gastroesophageal reflux or heartburn), lung-related issues, viruses such as chickenpox, a panic attack and certain muscle and bone issues may cause a child to complain of chest discomfort. Our physicians can apply state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging including cardiac MRI, EKG and electrocardiograms as well as other tests to identify the reason for a child’s chest pains and/or rule out the possibility of a heart problem.
