Obesity in Patients with Diabetes

Carrying extra body weight is a common factor in the development of diabetes – and ironically, certain medications for treating diabetes may actually cause weight gain to occur. Understanding that when a person is technically obese, the body’s ability to properly control blood sugar is strained, it’s easy to see why treatment plans that focus on making the proper dietary choices, exercising regularly and reducing stress can be very important to diabetics and those with pre-diabetes. Even modest lifestyle changes and small amounts of weight loss over time can have a substantial, positive impact on a patient’s ability to successfully manage their blood sugar.
