Department of Transportation (DOT) Physicals

Department of Transportation (DOT) exams are completed by licensed medical examiners in compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Medical examiners include doctors of medicine (MD), doctors of osteopathy (DO), physician assistants (PAs), advanced practice nurses (APNs), and doctors of chiropractic (DC). This exam will confirm that you are healthy enough to safely drive a vehicle while keeping yourself and other drivers safe on the road. Most DOT physical exams are good for up to 24 months, but your examiner may issue one that is less than 24 months if they are monitoring a condition such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Once you are approved and qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), your examiner will give you a copy of the results and a certificate.
