Cancer Risk Assessment

Your doctor may advise that you receive a cancer risk assessment if you have an abnormal health screen or if your family has a history of cancer. Certain genetic screenings can identify the presence of genetic disorders or health concerns, such as your likelihood of developing cancer. Before any tests, screenings or counseling sessions are recommended, your doctor will assess the likelihood of potential genetic disorders, such as breast cancer, by obtaining a detailed family history, medical history and lifestyle history. Persons with a strong family history of any cancer, specifically breast cancer or early onset cancer, are typically referred for genetic counseling. Your doctors will create a plan of care that is geared toward your condition and long-term goals. This may include lifestyle adjustments, genetic testing and risk-reducing surgery.
