Abdominal Pain Abdominal Pain
Abdominal pain usually occurs due to indigestion or the so-called “stomach flu” (gastroenteritis) and will resolve itself without a visit to your doctor. However, any time that a person experiences sudden pain in a specific, localized area, pain in a specific area that worsens over time, or pain that is tied to an abdominal injury should seek immediate medical evaluation to rule out a more serious problem. While kidney stones, appendicitis, gallbladder disease, peptic ulcer disease and multiple forms of cancer can present with severe abdominal or pelvic pain, most of the time it is due to a more benign reason such as the side-effects of a certain medication, or possibly gastric reflux that may or may not indicate the presence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
