VanDyke Recognized with DAISY Award

Gordon Hospitals Seth VanDyke, RN, was recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human tasks nurses perform every day.

VanDyke, who is a nurse on Gordon Hospitals medical-surgical unit, received a nomination including the following: Seth VanDyke is a great asset to your hospital. He is very caring, kind, and he goes above and beyond his call of duty. My husband was very scared and upset. He had never been sick and had a lot of blood clots. Seth kept encouraging him and telling him it would be okay, and that it was in God's hands. He even took the time to pray with him. With my husband being the assistant pastor of our church, that really touched our hearts. That gave us hope knowing a young man, a child of God, was taking care of him. We could not have had a better nurse.

About the DAISY Foundation

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system.)

The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
