FLAGLER and VOLUSIA COUNTIES, Fla., July 7, 2017 Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast and Florida Hospital New Smyrna in New Smyrna Beach each announced new chief medical officers (CMO).
Dr. Mark Kilman is the new CMO for Florida Hospital Flagler and Dr. Ronald Thomas is the new CMO at Florida Hospital New Smyrna.
As CMOs, Kilman and Thomas will each oversee their hospitals functions related to physicians and patient care, including medical staff services, credentialing, compliance with accrediting bodies, patient satisfaction, infection control and other quality of care measures.
Kilman is a board-certified anesthesiologist and previously worked at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach for seven years. In this role, he directed the flow of anesthesiology services within the operating department, with oversight of up to 15 concurrent surgeries and a team of 10 anesthesiologists and as many as 12 nurse anesthetists.
In addition, Kilman has served as a member of Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Centers Foundation board of directors since 2013, and from 2013 to 2015, he was a member of the hospitals performance improvement steering committee, which launched improvement projects across all areas of the facility.

Kilman earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology and cell science from the University of Florida and a medical degree from St. Georges University School of Medicine. He also completed a residency in anesthesiology at University of Florida.
Thomas is board certified in both internal medicine and emergency medicine and most recently served as the CMO at Florida Hospital Flagler.
Thomas has extensive experience in several medical leadership positions with a focus in emergency medicine at hospitals in Connecticut, Chicago and New Mexico.
Thomas earned a medical degree and completed an internal medicine residency from the University of New Mexico. Additionally, he earned a master's degree in public health from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Mattison and Thomas worked side-by-side in leadership roles at Florida Hospital Flagler from 2014 to 2016.
