DELAND, Fla. – Neurologist Dr. Mays Alani has joined AdventHealth Medical Group and will perform procedures at AdventHealth DeLand.
As an AdventHealth Medical Group physician, Alani joins AdventHealth’s employed group of physicians with more than 400 health care providers, including 250 primary care physicians and specialists in Volusia, Flagler and Lake counties.
“I was drawn to AdventHealth as we share the desire to improve the health, prosperity and well-being of the communities we serve,” Alani said. “I also believe in the importance of inclusivity and celebrating the diverse backgrounds, cultures and experiences of our patients, visitors and colleagues.”
Fluent in English and Arabic, Alani is a highly skilled board-certified neurologist treating a wide variety of neurological disorders such as tremors, dementia, epilepsy, and stroke. She also specializes in treating Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, tic disorders and facial spasms.
Alani earned a medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Bahrain. Following graduation, she completed her residency in neurology at the University of Central Florida where she served as Chief Resident. She went on to complete fellowship training in movement disorders at the Yale School of Medicine in Connecticut.
“Being from Central Florida, I always knew I wanted to come back to the area with training in movement disorders and provide that service to the community,” Alani said.
AdventHealth DeLand has been named a Pathways to Excellence hospital, and has also earned an “A” rating from Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades since 2015.
