LAKE PLACID, Fla. — AdventHealth Lake Placid has launched a new Low Dose Lung Screening CT program, bringing this life-saving service closer to home for people who live in and around Lake Placid.
Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States and causes more deaths than any other cancer for both men and women. Data from the Florida Department of Health shows Highlands County saw about 60 per 100,000 people being diagnosed with Lung Cancer, which is higher than the state average of about 52 per 100,000 people. Detecting lung cancer early can save lives and that’s where low-dose CT scans come in. This quick, painless scan helps doctors find signs of lung cancer when it’s easier to treat.
“Early detection saves lives, and advanced imaging technology allows us to see what the eye cannot,” said Casie Miller, Imaging Manager at AdventHealth Lake Placid. “Every scan is an opportunity to give patients peace of mind and empower them with answers. Our team is committed to combining expertise with whole-person care, so every person feels cared for from the moment they walk through our doors.”
Not everyone needs this screening. You may qualify if you are 50 to 80 years old, have a history of smoking (at least 20 years of smoking one pack a day,) currently smoke or quit within the last 15 years and not have new symptoms like coughing, shortness of breath, or unexplained weight loss.
The addition of this program reflects AdventHealth Lake Placid’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to high-quality, preventive care for those in the Lake Placid community. For those not in the Lake Placid area, AdventHealth Sebring’s Outpatient Center at 2950 US HWY 27 S, Suite B is also a certified center for lung cancer screenings.
If you or someone you care about would like to learn more, please contact your doctor or provider; they can help you decide if this screening is right for you. You can also find more information at AdventHealthLakePlacid.com.
