PALM COAST, Fla., November 8, 2016 On Nov. 4, a local group of quilters, dubbed the Hospice Quilt Project, donated their 400th quilt to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House.
Hospice Quilt Project group has been creating and donating quilts to the Palm Coast hospice house since opening in 2007.
On average, it takes approximately 30 hours to create a single quilt, meaning these 400 quilts represent nearly 12,000 donated hours.
The quilters are all from Palm Coast and meet each week to quilt together for the Florida Hospital HospiceCare inpatient unit.
Quilts are comforting for both patients and their families. It is more comforting to be wrapped in a colorful, warm quilt made with love, instead of the standard hospital-issued blanket, said Pam Taylor of the Hospice Quilt Project group. We love to quilt and what these quilts mean to the family of loved ones drives us to keep quilting. These quilts comfort the families for a lifetime.
With each donation, the Hospice Quilt Project leaves a note that says, From our nimble fingers and loving hearts, we offer to you this gift. May its warmth comfort you, body and soul.
It is amazing what these ladies do, said Rebecca Fitch, Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House inpatient care coordinator. They may never even get a chance to meet the person who receives their quilt, but they make them anyway. We truly do appreciate the Hospice Quilt Project group for their gift to our patients and their families.
Located on the campus of Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast, the eight-bed Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House opened in 2007 and is the community's most comprehensive hospice, offering acute, respite, home health and continuous care. No other hospice in Flagler County offers all four services.
