Florida Hospital Hosts Seminars on Colorectal Cancer

VOLUSIA AND FLAGLER COUNTIES, Fla. During December, the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties which comprise the Florida Hospital East Florida Region will host luncheons on colorectal cancer to raise awareness about the nations second leading cause of cancer deaths. In the U.S., colorectal cancer accounts for nearly 10 percent of cancer deaths. While the likelihood of dying from colorectal cancer has decreased due to screenings, one in three adults ages 50-75 are not up-to-date with recommended colorectal cancer screening. Sadly, one in 20 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime. Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer. More than 60 percent of deaths from this disease could be avoided with regular screenings. The good news is there are more than 1 million survivors in the United States. Here are the upcoming events, hosted by the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties in December: On Dec. 1 from noon to 1 p.m., join Florida Hospital DeLand at 701 W Plymouth Ave., Classrooms A, B and C, DeLand. The event features gastroenterologists Dr. Jeanellee Soriano Co and Dr. Martin Prado, as well as general surgeon Dr. Joel Bautista. A complimentary lunch will be provided. Seating is limited.
